What I never understood is this angle that blade runner and alien universes should be merged most that like blade runner love the deeper concepts of humanity while most that like alien want nothing human to the monsters in the dark. RS screwed the pooch making the space jockey just another human being in a suit and mask it saps all the mystique away and then proceeds to inject more of humanities worst elements in the form of a stupid crew of "experts" failing to be remotely expert on anything they're an expert on the geologist mapper guy getting lost and biologist playing poke the cobra pussy worm thing while talking baby gibberish to it or the whole gang deciding to take their helmets off. Lets not forget we didn't get much of a sophisticated answer from the most advanced species in the known universe and have him behave like a murderous caveman showcasing some seriously advanced reasoning skills **BARF**. If there was a point to making the jockey human it was to incorporate our own flaws just to push forth another monster except the bald white guys don't seem too intimidating they look more like body builder mimes. Ridley Scott thinks Prometheus is a stroke of genius is proof enough to me that he's actually a clown so in love with their own comedy. I was one of those alien fans prometheus called back but afterward I never returned even with the Alien moniker and I think its rather unfair to just accuse Alien fans of attending Covenant Need I remind you the advertising behind Prometheus was targeting fans of the Original Alien film who else would be excited upon seeing the likeness of the derelict ship or similar image of the space jockey heck even the trailers sound for prometheus mimics that of teh original trailer so it was definitely targeting real alien fans you cannot dispute that. This new blood nonsense came because they either never saw the original Alien and didn't know the association with those images but that would be a minority unless they're die hard Michael Fassbender fans I would surmize it was mostly original Alien film fans that populated seats in Prometheus. The only ones who showed up to covenant are those losers who remotely appreciated Prometheus because I seen its advertisements and there front and center is the xenomorph so give us original Alien fans some more credit for avoiding the franchise trappings of covenant I smelt the bullshit in Prometheus I wasn't going to lick that arsehole for the second act.

The DNA, of Scorcese for sure and forever, The car assassination at the end overacted, was that Steven Prince kissing the pistol before firing?, can't find his credit anywhere. very small part, then Dinero spazzing out too much, but hey it was the end of the movie.

Ridley scott is the only director with such high accolades that will come in, and make straight to dvd quality sequels for his own acclaimed franchises lol or allow someone else to. Cameron is a fucking hack loser who shouldnt be allowed to touch anyone elses IP. Meaning he would never be able to make movies lol! Dude likes ws Anderson movies ffs. Thinks avp is good smh. Aside from that scott makes the worst of the sequels. Despite fox 3 turned out ok with the assembly cut. 4 has the best body horror, and cast. Prometheus wouldve been redeemed if scott didnt let the criticism change his entire plan, and churn out covenant as a shit action flick, but he did, so those two are fuck awful. Blade runner fans hate that the canon IS that ford is a replicant, and the sequel was meh. Did scott direct that though? Now we are getting gladiator 2, with new york accented denzel smh. Dude has more losses than wins atp? If you count the shit he signs off on.

Very good honest analysis! Alien & Aliens are classics in their own right and were original. J Cameron excuted a vision in a talented and creative way, while balancing the need to maintain continuity of the franchise on the one hand, and steering it legitimately in a new direction on the other. To my mind the Alien franchise ended with Alien 3. Given that the 3rd was a nighmare in terms of its flaws and how it was compromised, but also by the same token it is noteworthy that Fincher really fought hard to save it. Whatever followed thereafter was really just boring, unimaginative and was made just for the sake of expanding the franchise at all costs. In movies we are increasingly seeing a very noticeable decline in artistic content and that speaks of the shortage of talented Sci-Fi authors (in this genre specifically) in our time compared to like the early 50s, 60s,70s and 80s. In no short measure this is a reflection in the decline in our culture for the appreciation of education and any respect or interest in science and skills development. Every one wants to be famous and rich, quickly. The reason why Alien is a classic now, is because there had been a monumental amount of work across the board already been done before R Scott even showed up. He was the 5th director to be on board, who finally agreed to take it on. The story however was already in progress and refinement for two years by that stage! Quality required passion and that engenders the desire to excell! The franchise has been irreversibly fouled up beyond recognition by the meddlings fingers of R Scott et al. My advice to ScottFree: Get decent (seasoned) Sci-Fi authors, who care about the Alien Lore & Franchise, and f*&%ing pay them well for their talent, then keep your hands off the story development and script! None of that human origins and black jizz bullshit, please! That was a shameless copy-and-paste from 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the X-Files respectively.

It’s a great 90’s movie. Even though it poked major fun at the original show, it also clearly respected it. I’d also classify this and the sequel as legitimate 90’s grunge movies - there was a lot of grunge atmosphere around the movie.

To me, Lydia Tar didn’t feel like a victim of cancel culture but more like karma finally catching up to her and holding her accountable for all of her bad behaviors. She caused her own downfall in the end but she’s too much of a narcissist to realize that and would rather see herself as the victim! I really did not like her character at all, but I still think that Cate Blanchett’s performance was really incredible and probably her best!

I'm 40; Movie theaters had much more of a place when the world was more of a monoculture/shared experiences, and also missing the movie in theaters meant you had to wait 7 months for it to be released on home video. Also, people get their entertainment in bite-sized form ala TikToks, memes, etc. Sitting down to watch a 2 1/2 hour traditionally-structured story is a hard sell for people in their 20s today where their phones give them instant access to loud noises and funny faces.

Think for me it felt more lack all the rapid and disorienting cutting in the fire fight was more a visual representation of the psychosis they both locked in. Out of all Mann films because fan, Manhunter seems the most layered and cerebral with psychological and meaning. Mann spoken about the film with very clear desire of deeply diving into the psychology of cops and criminals. They also spoke with actual serial killer and FBI.

My argument is that Tornados are presented more like horror creatures than natural disasters. I would also say most of Jurassic Park plays like a horror movie with the dinosaurs, despite the moments of wonder. I can agree Twister could use some more gore and death to be closer to horror, but I don't think it's a disaster movie either.

@@pleaserewind295 the tornadoes deathly are presented as creatures, and as one of the commenters stated they have animalistic sounds, which does give them their own character, but. As a weather nerd. What you would call bills “ superpower power” it’s just instinct. There are people with just a natural instinct for stuff not saying they are always right but calling it. A superpower is a bit much. You are correct that is not a disaster movie . Call it an action/thriller. I just think putting horror anywhere near it is a stretch. The only horror in it is the shining which I love. I just think you’re stretching things a little bit.

Every time I watch Godzilla (2014) I get chills when the shore crawls back into the sea and the people realize a tsunami is coming. After the news stories and footage from the 2004 and 2011 earthquakes and tsunamis I have this deep instinctual horror reaction to the idea of seeing the ocean pull away like that, knowing that a wall of water you can't outrun is coming for you. I don't think any of the subsequent Godzilla movies use that same natural disaster horror motif, but I found it to be very effective.
